Some lucky few amongst us were born with the gift to eat whatever and however they wish and yet not gain weight, thus maintaining good body shapes. However, for the majority of us, especially in Hong Kong with work pressure and our busy lives, we just simply don't have the time to exercise enough to keep our body in shape. For the rest, it seems that no matter how much exercise they do or whatever kind of diet they go on, they just can't lose fat in certain areas of their bodies. Liposuction can remove excessive fat in specific areas and thus restoring a desirable body shape and ultimately create a better overall body image.
Liposuction Surgery
There is two main methods for carrying out liposuction, suction-assisted and ultrasound-assisted, each utilizing different technologies.
- Suction-assisted liposuction by liposuction aspirator: First of all, the target area is marked out and a large amount of saline containing vasoconstrictors, in order to minimize bleeding, and local anesthetic is injected around the area. Liposuction is then carried out by the liposuction aspirator until the desirable body shape is achieved. The aspirated fat cells from the procedure are viable and can be centrifuged for subsequent structural fat grafting in other parts of the body if required.
- Ultrasound-assisted liposuction: Ultrasound waves or energy is delivered to the subcutaneous fat in the target area in order to liquefy the fat tissue before liposuction. However, the fat cells which have been aspirated are not viable and cannot be used.
Liposuction Result
Swelling and bruising will subside over 2-4 weeks and the new body shape will continue to improve over 6 months. The scars are inconspicuous and a pressure garment is required to be worn for a month after the procedure.
