The human ear is a weird and wonderful organ; they come in many different shapes and sizes. In some extreme cases they can really stand out in a crowd and can cause the bearers of such ears social and emotional distress. Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that can change the shape and size of ears and restore more natural appearances and subsequently restore one's self confidence and general appearance.
Otoplasty Details: Otoplasty surgeries are usually performed under local anaesthesia with sedation. Incisions are made at the back of the ears and the cartilage in the ear is remodelled in a number of different ways in order to create a new desirable shape. A light pressure plaster is worn after the operation for around a week.
Otoplasty Results: Bruising and Swelling should subside in a couple of weeks and the new shape of the ear will continue to remodel over a period of 6-8 weeks. As the cartilage continues to grow and heal, the surgical results can be, sometimes, unpredictable. The scars from the operation will be hidden behind the ear and will continue to improve over a period of 2 years.
